The Grand Reveal
The tree stood quiet in the corner, its branches open and waiting. It held space, not just for what would be created, but for all that had come before. In its stillness, it already carried a profound presence - a gentle, enduring tribute to R E Lalitha and Lokambal.
The children gathered around it, their eyes filled with wonder. They may not have fully grasped the weight of the moment yet, but they were beginning to understand that this tree was more than just craft and color. It was memory. It was love passed down. It was roots that ran deep into their family’s history.
Today, they began.
Gathering the Memories
Small hands brought paper, colors, and fragments of their hearts. They drew moments they knew intimately and moments they had only heard about in bedtime stories.
One carefully lined piece of paper bore the date, April 27, 2026. It was a testament to seven short but deeply impactful years spent with Uma Paati. The young authors, affectionately known as "Chechu” and “Varchu” carefully chronicled the simple, profound acts of love: being picked up from school, being fed, and knowing her simply as
Uma Paati.
Beside it went another note, pouring out adoration for a favorite person. It carried the warmth of a grandmother's unwavering support and the fierce, protective love that would shield a grandchild from any scolding, complete with the echoed Tamil defense: "Chechu va edhuvum sollathai!!" (Don't say anything to Chechu!).
As the days unfolded, the tree began to change. Vismaya and Rahul brought a burst of vibrant energy to the branches. They hung bright, meticulously drawn cards filled with geometric patterns, blooming flowers, and joyful pink bubbles. Their message was a lively reflection of the family spirit: "Radiate Positivity! Go wild, free!"
Another branch welcomed a heartfelt sketch from Riddu. Drawn in blue ink, it depicted a familiar, comforting scene - a kitchen counter with cabinets, a knife block, and fresh fruit resting in a bowl. But it was the words that carried the true magic. Riddu's note honored Ramassery, declaring that Ramassery family "turns sweet to sweeter - and removes sour." Signed with a bright red heart, it was a beautiful reminder of the people who bring flavor, joy, and comfort to the family's daily life.
Even the youngest hands contributed to the growing legacy. Little Advait proudly brought his own masterpiece - a bright red card featuring a tiny handprint transformed into a strawberry. With a sweet, quiet pride, he added his message to the leaves, letting the world know he loved his family "BERRY MUCH."
A Living Tribute
By the end of the week, the tree was no longer quiet.
Ribbons, crafts, and photos had found their rightful places among the branches. Laughter filled the space around it, but within that joy was something much deeper - a palpable sense of belonging, of continuity, and of being part of something larger than themselves.
As the family stood back for the grand reveal, they didn't just see paper and string. The tree now carried stories, held voices, and stood proudly as a living tribute. Every decorated branch reflected not just the boundless creativity of Vismaya, Rahul, Riddu, Advait, Varchu and Chechu, but the lasting legacy of R E Lalitha and Lokambal.
It was more than a tree. It was their values, their warmth, and their presence, blooming beautifully through the generations.
